Sigurd Eysteinsson was known as “Sigurd the Mighty”.  He was a Viking earl who ruled the Orkney and Shetland Islands in the late 9th Century.  Being a Viking, he was of course greedy for more.  He helped conquer northern Scotland.  In the process, he challenged a Scottish chief to a 40 on 40 battle.  Sigurd, being a Viking, showed up with 60 warriors.  In single combat, Sigurd defeated and beheaded the chief Maelbrigte.  Maelbrigte was called “The Buck-Toothed” for obvious reasons.  Sigurd tied the head to his saddle for the ride back to his encampment.  Along the way, the buck-teeth grazed his leg, causing an infection.  Sigurd died soon after in 892.
